As I’ve mentioned before, one of the joys of the points/miles hobby is extending our travel budget to include lots of little trips. In 2019, we managed to:
- see friends in Orlando a few times (May, August, November 2019)
- visit friends in Traverse City during peak tourist season (July 2019)
- spend time with family in Knoxville (June 2019)
- check out Seattle for an evening, take Amtrak to Glacier National Park, and explore for a long weekend (September 2019)
- enjoy a special meal at The Fat Duck in Bray, England combined with some amazing live theater (Ian McKellen on Stage, John Finnemore) (November 2019)
A friend once said “You know, you don’t actually save money with points and miles.” I replied “No, but I do more and I do it more comfortably,” which made him pause and reconsider. Travel with this hobby is most definitely NOT FREE. But it does open up possibilities: for the same expenditure, we can take this little trips and take big, grand trips all at the same time.
