Among our longer trips, we also enjoyed a few weekend jaunts in 2024.
- March 2024, Toronto: James Acaster is a favorite comedian of ours and he only had 4 dates in North America in 2024. The only weekend date we could go to was in Toronto, around our wedding anniversary, so off we went! We flew there on UA, back on AA, and stayed at the Anndore Hotel on Hyatt points.
- May 2024: back in NYC to see Merrily We Roll Along. I’d seen it solo in December 2023 and wanted Chris to see it. We had a frantic trip, as we also had a rock show to see in Evanston, IL that evening. So we flew there on a Friday night on UA and then using a Hilton FNC we stayed at the Conrad Midtown (before the hotel left the Hilton system). That Saturday, we had a lovely walk around Midtown, caught the matinee, ran to meet our pre-arranged Lyft car to LGA, and made our 5pm flight on AA. Stepped off that flight into a taxi to Evanston, where we caught a 8pm show! We were back in our own bed by 11pm.
- July 2024: Haarlem, Netherlands. I hadn’t visited this town when we were in Amsterdam the previous year, but Chris had been quite taken with it and so off we went! I was torn between being charmed and being annoyed with just how *perfect* this town was as a potential future home. It’s so lovely and yet practical and my romantic soul is rebelling against practicality.
- October 2024: David Tennant as Macbeth in London. How could I resist? We actually paid cash for our tickets and flew separately because I’m an AA loyalist and Chris was trying to secure another year of United status. We’re just that bonkers.
- November 2024: Vancouver. I was there for work and then Chris joined me for the weekend. Terrible weather, fantastic city. This weekend was a fabulous use of Hyatt’s 1-4 Category FNC at the Hyatt Regency (sadly, this hotel is now a Cat 5 property).
- December 2024: One night in NYC. We needed to position for our flight to Cairo, so we spent a night in NYC and had dinner with friends.
